Why is it prescribed?
This kind of joint reconstruction is carried out whenever the articulation is under acute pain or when it has lost its mobility for degenerative (Osteoarthritis) or inflammatory (Arthritis) causes, it is also caused by trauma after-effects like fractures or menisci injuries in the knee.
Arthroplasties have traditionally aimed at replacing only damaged parts and in the awareness that it’s always better to keep as much unaffected body tissue as possible.
Non-application of this procedure will lead to a progressive mechanic alteration and total loss of the limb balance, crippling the patient more and more.
Other less frequent but no less important causes are avascular necrosis of the proximal end for different reasons as well as hip displacements.
