What's ED?
The term “Impotence” has been replaced by Erectile Dysfunction or ED for it covers all disorders that produce a persistent impossibility to maintain a long enough erection so you can have satisfactory intercourse. An erection is an involuntary reaction in response to sexual stimuli and arousal.
Sexual stimuli and arousal make the brain, nerves, heart, blood vessels and hormones work altogether to produce a fast increment of the blood flowing towards the penis. This blood is trapped inside the 2 spongy chambers of the penis, as they are filled and expand, the penis gets rigid and grows. The result is an erection.
About 30 million men suffer from erectile dysfunction in US, and it is not an inevitable consequence of aging at all.
Nowadays we know that more than 80% of the men who suffer from DE show a specific problem or physical disorders as a cause, and in most of the cases it can easily be detected. Some of these disorders might be:
- Possible injuries in the brain or spine
- Diseases such as diabetes
- Previous surgeries like: prostate or rectum removal because of cancer
- The use of certain medications such as hypertension relievers
- The consumption of chemical substances like tobacco, drugs or alcohol
